CAN We Live Blameless or Above Sin?
This is a touchy subject for Christians who are raised in a church because of this verse: “10 If we say (claim) we have not sinned, we contradict His Word and make Him out to be false and a liar, and His Word is not in us [the divine message of the Gospel is not in our hearts].” I John 1:10
But look at this in depth…all too often we “assume” and do not perceive what the Spirit of God IS actually saying and teaching.
Before going further and to be QUITE clear…. EVERYONE has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, the written Word of God our Bible tells us this in scripture AND the wages OF sin is death. Now that this matter is out of the way, and you know I absolutely agree with the WORD of God….
PLEASE take TIME and read ALL of I John 1 & 2 you will glean a fuller understanding.
For those who read this, most of which are predominantly from the “Western culture” meaning how most in the English-speaking world there is limited comprehension of the “how” things are being said or with understanding of Torah and not from an Orthox point of view but from one who has both been immersed in a deeper revelation. Often Messianic teaching from a Jewish mindset rather than Western culture gives a much different perspective with revelation and some are still caught up in ritual and rules thus not truly walking in freedom with understanding.
This might offend some but Paul said these kinds of things often and yes, he offended people but it was not a concern whether or not he offended but more that they “got it”! So, they could truly be changed! THAT is why I am sharing this so there will be understanding and I pray you take time to read this message before being “off put” or just “don’t like it”; Either way, it is said that sometimes we “cut our own nose off to spite ourselves” and if you don’t take time to read it, that may well be the case for you.
Let’s start in Exodus where Heavenly Father is talking to Moses.
“33 But the Lord said to Moses, whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him [not you] out of My book.” Exodus 32:33 in that chapter they people willfully and intentionally sinned! THEY CHOOSE to sin!
In our culture in America Christians are not taught what the Jewish culture is taught about the many different types OF sin. YES…there ARE levels!
I have heard it said “sin is sin” not so. There are different kinds and in the scripture different Hebrew words are written for our one English word regarding sin and each mean different things.
In Exodus, it is intentional because they willfully desired and made an idol to worship.
Let’s look at the different types of sin in a general sense.
Avel meaning wickedness, in justice, wrong
Rasha meaning wicked, cruel, evil
Zadon meaning wickedness, evil, insolence, malice.
TThese involve intent:
Avon translated means iniquity, for Intentional sin…Avah is the root word of avon simply meaning “to sin”
Fesha translated Transgression for Willful Sin. Fesha comes from the root pasha which means to sin or to rebel. Pesha is used to describe sin committed with intention of angering God. (Even these are erased see Isaiah 43:25)
Khata-ah translated means sin for unintentional sin. Hata is the root of khata-ah and means to sin, transgress, or miss. Hata-ah is used in scripture for sin that is committed in carelessness or ignorance.
These are the Hebrew words for sin.
IN the New Testament in the Greek it looks like this:
Avon – Anomia for iniquity or workers of iniquity.
Fesha-Adikia for injustice, unrighteousness or wickedness.
Hata-ah – Amartia for failure, fault or sin.
IN the NT Amartia is used most often.
There is a fourth word in the Greek that comes from a Hebrew idiom for sin is used only three times in NT and it is Astokheo which literally means to miss the mark which is a Hebrew expression for sin Stokhos means target, mark and Astokheo is used only in I Tim. 1:6,6:21 and II Tim. 2:18
While God doesn’t “rate” sins like men and women do there are some that are brought out specifically and it is comes the closest to God rating sin and it is in Proverbs 6:16 take time to look at that beloved.
WHY is this important to know and understand? When we talk about “grace” and “forgiveness” of sin and whether or not we “sin” it IS important to hear what the Word actually teaches and how Holy Spirit brings revelation and understanding to it for us!
It is all too easy to just go along with a minister in a pulpit and believe what comes out of their mouths before having even read what the WORD says with a desire to understand and glean revelation!
Now with some measure of intellectual knowledge at this point….let’s see how this scripture reads in I John as we look into what it means to “walk in the Spirit” and “live a live free under God’s grace”…free from what?
To know who you are in Christ is to know you received ALL of Jesus not just part of Him!
Most only “know in part” and “believe in part” and it is why they struggle with healing and deliverance parts of ALL the Jesus came to do for us!
Intellectually they believe or think they do until it comes to a situation or circumstance that “tests the heart” of what we really DO believe!
Let’s look into this more in Romans 8:1-13 *BTW the word “sin” here is ammartia the Greek word meaning…failure, fault, sin.
“ Therefore, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has freed me from the law of sin and of death. 3 For God has done what the Law could not do, [its power] being weakened by the flesh [the entire nature of man without the Holy Spirit]. Sending His own Son in the guise of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, [God] condemned sin in the flesh [subdued, overcame, deprived it of its power over all who accept that sacrifice], 4 So that the righteous and just requirement of the Law might be fully met in us who live and move not in the ways of the flesh but in the ways of the Spirit [our lives governed not by the standards and according to the dictates of the flesh, but controlled by the Holy Spirit]. 5 For those who are according to the flesh and are controlled by its unholy desires set their minds on and pursue those things which gratify the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit and are controlled by the desires of the Spirit set their minds on and seek those things which gratify the [Holy] Spirit. 6 Now the mind of the flesh [which is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit] is death [death that comprises all the miseries arising from sin, both here and hereafter]. But the mind of the [Holy] Spirit is life and [soul] peace [both now and forever]. 7 [That is] because the mind of the flesh [with its carnal thoughts and purposes] is hostile to God, for it does not submit itself to God’s Law; indeed, it cannot. 8 So then those who are living the life of the flesh [catering to the appetites and impulses of their carnal nature] cannot please or satisfy God, or be acceptable to Him. 9 But you are not living the life of the flesh, you are living the life of the Spirit, if the [Holy] Spirit of God [really] dwells within you [directs and controls you]. But if anyone does not possess the [Holy] Spirit of Christ, he is none of His [he does not belong to Christ, is not truly a child of God]. 10 But if Christ lives in you, [then although] your [natural] body is dead by reason of sin and guilt, the spirit is alive because of [the] righteousness [that He imputes to you]. 11 And if the Spirit of Him Who raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, [then] He Who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will also restore to life your mortal (short-lived, perishable) bodies through His Spirit Who dwells in you. 12 So then, brethren, we are debtors, but not to the flesh [we are not obligated to our carnal nature], to live [a life ruled by the standards set up by the dictates] of the flesh. 13 For if you live according to [the dictates of] the flesh, you will surely die. But if through the power of the [Holy] Spirit you are [habitually] putting to death (making extinct, deadening) the [evil] deeds prompted by the body, you shall [really and genuinely] live forever.”
Look at Romans 6:1-18,22
“What shall we say [to all this]? Are we to remain in sin in order that God’s grace (favor and mercy) may multiply and overflow? 2 Certainly not! How can we who died to sin live in it any longer? 3 Are you ignorant of the fact that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 We were buried therefore with Him by the baptism into death, so that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious [power] of the Father, so we too might [habitually] live and behave in newness of life. 5 For if we have become one with Him by sharing a death like His, we shall also be [one with Him in sharing] His resurrection [by a new life lived for God]. 6 We know that our old (unrenewed) self was nailed to the cross with Him in order that [our] body [which is the instrument] of sin might be made ineffective and inactive for evil, that we might no longer be the slaves of sin. 7 For when a man dies, he is freed (loosed, delivered) from [the power of] sin [among men]. 8 Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 Because we know that Christ (the Anointed One), being once raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has power over Him. 10 For by the death He died, He died to sin [ending His relation to it] once for all; and the life that He lives, He is living to God [in unbroken fellowship with Him]. 11 Even so consider yourselves also dead to sin and your relation to it broken, but alive to God [living in unbroken fellowship with Him] in Christ Jesus. 12 Let not sin therefore rule as king in your mortal (short-lived, perishable) bodies, to make you yield to its cravings and be subject to its lusts and evil passions. 13 Do not continue offering or yielding your bodily members [and [a]faculties] to sin as instruments (tools) of wickedness. But offer and yield yourselves to God as though you have been raised from the dead to [perpetual] life, and your bodily members [and [b]faculties] to God, presenting them as implements of righteousness. 14 For sin shall not [any longer] exert dominion over you, since now you are not under Law [as slaves], but under grace [as subjects of God’s favor and mercy]. 15 What then [are we to conclude]? Shall we sin because we live not under Law but under God’s favor and mercy? Certainly not! 16 Do you not know that if you continually surrender yourselves to anyone to do his will, you are the slaves of him whom you obey, whether that be to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience which leads to righteousness (right doing and right standing with God)? 17 But thank God, though you were once slaves of sin, you have become obedient with all your heart to the standard of teaching in which you were instructed and to which you were committed. 18 And having been set free from sin, you have become the servants of righteousness (of conformity to the divine will in thought, purpose, and action).”
“22 But now since you have been set free from sin and have become the slaves of God, you have your present reward in holiness and its end is eternal life.”
For us to say “oh but we are sinners and sin” is like saying Holy Spirit is incapable of giving us power to NOT sin! Did Paul not write “ I can DO all things through Christ (His anointing) that strengthens me”? Did not JESUS say with GOD ALL things are POSSIBLE?
He paid a high price for us and when we receive Him, to choose to continue to sin in unbelief is sin too! IF YOU ARE SET FREE FROM SIN, why do you call yourself a “sinner”? Do you NOT realize that in the Word it is written we give life to what we speak? And what we speak is what we really believe?
Can you see how satan has used this slimly loophole to keep people in a stronghold of unbelief and “under” a mindset that is NOT victorious?
You are victorious when you believe you are blameless in God’s sight because OF Jesus blood and righteousness and choose to deliberately NOT SIN! You are quick to repent if you realize you have or want to make certain all intentional and unintentional even omissive sins are forgiven and blotted out.
WHAT DOES THE WORD SAY ABOUT THAT? He remembers our sin no more. ( ) Which means what? We are FREED from the blame of sin or condemnation of it so why is it you call …NAME yourself a sinner?
The flesh has an “out” when we say it…. gives an excuse to give in to these “little sins” of the flesh we know we should not do.
HOW often have you heard “oh I am just a sinner saved by grace”? Sounds religious doesn’t it. Yep, just that! YOU WERE a sinner and have BEEN saved by grace…now you are what?
A child of the Most High, a co-heir with Jesus Christ THE SON of God! NOW YOU are considered a son/daughter of GOD!
You cannot approach the throne of GOD as a “sinner” beloved ones!
If you believe you are a sinner, then what you believe WILL come out in your actions and words, as Jesus said…out of the heart (mind, will and emotions) the mouth speaks!
IF you start thinking like a Child of the MOST HIGH GOD you will begin to act like it! AND your thoughts will change and guess what? SO WILL YOUR ACTIONS!
Romans 12 calls it “transformation”. That “stronghold” of unbelief and sinfulness is brought down by the SWORD OF TRUTH inside us when WE believe!
You cannot go to heaven unless YOU are blameless and above sin beloved ones!!!!!! So why is it we excuse sin by thinking and speaking we are “sinners”? ARE YOU in sin? Then get right with GOD! Stop it! YOU KNOW BETTER!
To use the excuse “I can’t help it” is a lie of the enemy and a deception that keeps people trapped and in captivity to the sin and their effectiveness in the Body of Christ for the Kingdom of Heaven is squelched!!
YOU CAN HELP IT! YOU have the MOST POWERFUL Person INSIDE of you and AROUND you if you have received JESUS CHRIST and HOLY SPIRIT!
WE are given “Power=dunamis, miraculous power. Love=agape a supernatural love, Sound Mind=sophronismos meaning self-control, discipline, sound mind!” II Timothy 1:7
NOT given a spirit of fear and it IS a spirit that holds people captive and paralyzes them from going forward.
Excuses are NOT from GOD!
ON the flip side of living sin free and blameless….there are those who do not believe they ever sinned. USUALLY these are ones who are new to GOD and Jesus and Holy Spirit will reveal their hearts to them to bring them into righteousness.
The ones who think they never have sinned and believe they are “above” others…. walk in pride and that is very dangerous and is self-deceit according to the word in I John.
To say you “don’t sin” is not fallacy or heresy…. IF you walk in the Spirit and make righteous choices by the Power of Holy Spirit!!! IT IS POSSIBLE!
Practice what you have learned about tearing down strongholds in your mind and belief system and CHOOSE to practice keeping a clean heart before GOD and you are seen as righteous to Him! Remember, you can’t approach Him if you are not clean….and Jesus blood is there to cleanse from all unrighteousness and the Father will discipline HIS children to teach them HIS ways to keep a holy life and walk blameless and sin free!!!
What man calls sin may not be what GOD calls sin…for example…some denominations think it’s a sin for women to wear makeup or pants…yet that is not a sin. On the flip side, some don’t know that talking about someone is same as “murder” or “character assassination” like lusting after a woman is same as adultery according to GOD’s definition!
You cannot know nor understand unless YOU have a personal and experiential relationship WITH JESUS CHRIST!!!! Knowing Holy Spirit and Heavenly Father!
“56 Now sin is the sting of death, and sin exercises its power [upon the soul] through [the abuse of] the Law. 57 But thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory [making us conquerors] through our Lord Jesus Christ.” I Corinthians 15:56-57
Wages of sin IS death…the final outcome and in the soul. Unsaved people are not alive in their spirit, their souls are alive because it’s attached to the personality. BUT until we are made alive in Christ, we ARE dead and the final outcome of that mortality is death forever. Like dying over and over.
IN Christ is LIFE and we can conquer our sinful flesh because it was JESUS Who took it upon the cross and gave us power to be overcomers! He said in life we have trials and troubles but BE OF GOOD CHEER…why? HE overcame the world! Why did He say this if HE did not provide a way for us to live victoriously OVER sin so we could see Him forever and see the Father in Heaven? ITS called grace! GRACE is what it was He gave when HE came, lived a human life, died for us and then rose again. Grace so we are not under legal rules and limitations to be made righteous. Saying you have grace is true but do you even understand it?
Grace to be FREE FROM SIN and NOT….to “freely sin” and it be “okay”!!!!!
JESUS didn’t give HIS precious life so YOU COULD SIN and get away with it! NO! That is heresy and unfortunately some believe that lie to be truth! They are deceived!
Be careful beloved ones to know TRUTH and the ONLY WAY you will is to READ THE WORD FOR YOURSELF!!!!!! Not just “one” version, study it! IT IS YOUR LIFE BREAD!!!
I pray today that you will be set free from sin of unbelief and begin to walk a whole NEW way! A way in which you were meant to walk, seeing VICTORY in your daily lives!
Love and blessings to each of you!
