HOLINESS is Not Contagious…BUT the Anointing of God IS Tangible!
Holiness is not contagious….but the anointing IS tangible.
Unholiness IS contagious…you can “catch a cold”, or pass on germs to others as science has proven this. You hear bad doctrine and believe it, you begin to speak it and your actions will follow after it. You see a raunchy movie and the scenes play out in your mind and you start to “think” differently. Someone passes a strong drug to another and they try it, and are hooked. UNHOLINESS is contagious.
THE Anointing is tangible….the woman “touched” Jesus garment and was healed. Paul sent rags to people that he wore and people were healed.
HOLINESS however, is not contagious. One cannot “catch” holiness…holiness is given as a gift to the one who receives Jesus and HOLY SPIRIT is given.
Living a “life” of holiness is a pursuit, not a “one time thing”.
Two things to look at here: What does it mean to “pursue” holiness? Second, what does it mean that “anointing” is tangible?
Holiness is given to us when we receive JESUS, yes.
We could not enter the Kingdom of Heaven otherwise. That is the place where the blood of Jesus has annulled our sinful nature and all our sins. Canceling out the decree against us where the accuser has had his day in our lives
This is why people who are not saved cannot “think” right. They don’t “think like we do”. Colossians 1:13-14
“13 For He has rescued us and has drawn us to Himself from the dominion of darkness, and has transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption [because of His sacrifice, resulting in] the forgiveness of our sins [and the cancellation of sins’ penalty].”
They are under the verdict of condemnation and the accuser, destroyer, thief, liar and deceiver “yanks their chain”…so to speak!
Look at the verses that show us this: Romans 8:1-2,6-8
“8 Therefore there is now no condemnation [no guilty verdict, no punishment] for those who are in Christ Jesus [who believe in Him as personal Lord and Savior]. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has set you free from the law of sin and of death.”
“6 Now the mind of the flesh is death [both now and forever—because it pursues sin]; but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace [the spiritual well-being that comes from walking with God—both now and forever]; 7 the mind of the flesh [with its sinful pursuits] is actively hostile to God. It does not submit itself to God’s law, since it cannot, 8 and those who are in the flesh [living a life that caters to sinful appetites and impulses] cannot please God.”
We on the other hand are completely re-created made new, everything has changed. Look at this: Colossians 2:9-15
“9 For in Him all the fullness of Deity (the Godhead) dwells in bodily form [completely expressing the divine essence of God]. 10 And in Him you have been made complete [achieving spiritual stature through Christ], and He is the head over all rule and authority [of every angelic and earthly power]. 11 In Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, but by the [spiritual] circumcision of Christ in the stripping off of the body of the flesh [the sinful carnal nature], 12 having been buried with Him in baptism and raised with Him [to a new life] through [your] faith in the working of God, [as displayed] when He raised Christ from the dead. 13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh (worldliness, manner of life), God made you alive together with Christ, having [freely] forgiven us all our sins, 14 having canceled out the [g]certificate of debt consisting of [h]legal demands [which were in force] against us and which were hostile to us. And this certificate He has set aside and completely removed by nailing it to the cross. 15 When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities [those supernatural forces of evil operating against us], He made a public example of them [exhibiting them as captives in His triumphal procession], having triumphed over them through [i]the cross.”
BUT…while we have been FREELY given these amazing gifts that we could not ever earn ourselves, and the holiness is in us….because HOLY SPIRIT lives inside of those who have received Jesus as Savior, Healer, Deliverer…by HIS blood, then that same anointing that was on HIM comes on us! I John 2:27. WE have the same HOLY Spirit in us! TO empower us and lead, guide, direct, teach, comfort and the list goes on!
HOWEVER….do we pursue a “holy” life/lifestyle? THAT is the question.
The definition of pursuit or pursue-chase somebody persistently; carry something out.
When we pursue a holy lifestyle we cannot go it alone, we must pursue Holy Spirit to know HIM and HEAR His guidance from our Heavenly Father and in doing so, HE will remind us of how or what to do in situations, how to respond, what to do to help or maybe get away from someone or something. PURSUING a lifestyle of holiness means to live set apart from the “ways of the world” and the social status or what is considered “politically correct” PC is nothing more than a political spirit and that is nothing more than “HUMANISM” which is NOT of God, it’s a doctrine of me and demons.
Romans 12:1-2 tells us about being transformed physically and spiritually along with mentally! And anything “mental” always involves emotions and will.
Now what about “anointing”?
Anointing means to be rubbed with, like smeared by Holy Spirit as in marked or set aside. Anointing also means empowerment to do something that Heavenly Father wills to be done for HIS glory!
Anointing is a tangible substance from Heaven as well. Healing specifically… the woman with issue of blood was healed by “touching Jesus”.
People were healed when cloths Paul used were sent. Acts 19:11-12
“11 God was doing extraordinary and unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, 12 so that even handkerchiefs or face-towels or aprons that had touched his skin were brought to the sick, and their diseases left them and the evil spirits came out [of them].”
Paul pursued a lifestyle of holiness and the closer he was to the Lord the more an anointing was on his life… it certainly seems and yet, it’s not some “doctrine”. Just a result of the amazing anointing of God!
What about “impartations”? God reveals that anointing is transferable by way of an “impartation” when Paul is talking to Timothy in I Timothy 4:14-15.
“14 Do not neglect the gift which is in you, [that special inward endowment] which was directly imparted to you [by the Holy Spirit] by prophetic utterance when the elders laid their hands upon you [at your ordination]. 15 Practice and cultivate and meditate upon these duties; throw yourself wholly into them [as your ministry], so that your progress may be evident to everybody.”AMPC
“14 Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership. 15 Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all.” NKJV
Also in I Timothy 5:21-22
“21 Before God and Jesus Christ and the chosen angels, I tell you to make these judgments without any prejudice. Treat every person the same. 22 Think carefully before you lay your hands on anyone to make him an elder. Don’t share in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure.”
Paul is giving Timothy a lot of instructions one of which is not to impart too quickly laying hands on someone. Him or her…there were elders that were women and men, even ordinations as well. Ordained is being “set apart” specifically for the work of the ministry. NOT to be taken lightly nor to be thought of as “common”. Waiting, is not something the church has been good at and neither has it been very good at training life skills or equipping. When a new believe who has a strong anointing because of their desire and hunger for more of the LORD is apparent, most ministry leaders or church leaders tend to toss them out in front. The platform or pulpit even mission fields! MISTAKE!!! Result? They fall into sin so often and it’s a simple reason…lack of integrity and character development. And so many are stuck in places of “arrested development” and emotionally unable to cope with the pressures of having people admire them (another mistake because there is a vast difference between respect and honoring a God given gift and “admiration” or idolizing even praise of men. Dangerous territory, yet Christians do this to one another, a lot!). This is another message but for now, know that what Paul said to Timothy was to basically be “wise” not laying hands on someone. We need to help them grow up and mature while not squelching or quenching Holy Spirit in them, before ever placing them in leadership!!
All too often, people who are new in the Lord want to be “ordained” but not everyone is chosen or selected to be “ordained” by God. EVEN if men choose to ordain them or they choose to be ordained.
Remember the Ephesians verses that “gifts” were given? And that the scripture talks about apostles, prophets, teachers, evangelists and pastors? THOSE are the gifts found IN the people that are selected whose lives ARE THE GIFT and that those Spiritual assigned gifts will flow through as they are “set apart”!
FOR WHAT? Equipping the saints!
NOT everyone is to be an equipper! Not everyone will be an equipper!
BUT everyone has Holy Spirit and everyone should have an anointing for something because we are all called and we choose to be chosen!
You are given a special grace for what you are designed to do!
This is tied into your passion, what you dream of doing or think of most often. This is where when we pursue holiness, we are living out what we love to do, HIS way and seeing success!!!
BEING BLESSED or otherwise known as: “prospering”! Prospering IS being blessed by our Heavenly Father! I John 1:2
“2 Beloved, I pray that in every way you may succeed and prosper and be in good health [physically], just as [I know] your soul prospers [spiritually].”
Let’s look at this revelation John had a different way…
“I pray that just as your soul prospers, that you would prosper and be in good health and in every way succeed!”
WHEN your soul prospers, you prosper in all things! Pursing holiness will prosper your soul. Prospering in your soul, increases anointing on your life!
Wouldn’t you love to see the anointing so strong upon your life that when you brushed by someone, they were set free, healed and/or saved crying out to JESUS? Just remember how Peter’s shadow healed a man…wow!
Many have, like Charles Finney, Smith Wigglesworth, John G. Lake, Kathryn Kuhlman, and others!
While not everyone has or will walk in the kind of anointing that people are convicted of sin just by being near them, I DO believe in for a Heavenly Kingdom invasion that totally rocks this century to the likes of which has never been seen! HOLY SPIRT is moving all over in and through people and also without any invocation!!! Make no mistake beloved…HE IS COMING TO TAKE OVER!!! YAY JESUS!!! WHOO HOO!!!
Just WATCH and SEE what our GOD will do!!!
